That’s it! Rx Episode 2 is live on:
And don’t forget to leave a review, so you can get the rest for free!
Soooo…why the hell aren’t you reading it already? You got a literary problem? You wanna step outside the realm of speculative fiction and make something of it, buddy?
Hey man, just started episode 2 today, freakin awesome so far! Loved episode 1, been a fan of yours on Cracked for years now. Here’s the uncomfortable question: is there a way you’ll be able to let us all know, without getting into too much personal detail, if the sales of the book have been a financial success for you? I’m a (struggling) writer, and am really interested to know if this method of delivery has worked for you. Also, I know that “financial success” is a…..relative term. But goddammit I wanna live in a world where you can actually make some money from writing darkly comic pharmacologipunk serial novels. Can’t wait for episode 3! Thanks for punching words and fighting robots!
I’ve been transparent all the way, so if you look through archives and the threads on Cracked, you can get a detailed numbers breakdown. But in short: Episode 1 did really well, seeming to keep pace with my traditionally published book EIGTKE in its early weeks. It quickly cooled off, however. Then the Kickstarter also did well. Episode 2 is doing pretty rough, though. Less than a hundred total sales, which is about 1/6th what Episode 1 did at this point. If it keeps up at that pace, basically nobody will buy 3, and I have no idea what that means for sales of the full, collected book (which I’m considering the ‘real’ launch). I would say it’s been a moderate financial success so far, but will likely not be more profitable than traditional publishing, and has absorbed a lot more of my time. There are other advantages to self-publishing, of course, but I don’t know if I’d recommend it to anybody after this, or I’d be up for doing it again. Only time will tell.
How could anyone read episode 1 and not develop delirium tremans for episode 2 and 3? I am so enthralled with the world you’ve created with “Four Posts, Black Out and the Resevoir”. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Btw, is this set in the next century or further? I’m guessing it is based on KBD’s comment about his dad being a boxer in ’18 and the tech and city being far more advanced and destitute then I’d expect within the next 30-50 years.
Very original environment and plot. I would love to see this realized on the big screen.
I’ve always disliked it when sci-fi authors specifically date their work, unless it’s somehow integral to the plot. Feel free to envision it wherever it fits best in your head. In mine, it’s generally just ‘pretty far off.’ The world seems less feasible the closer it is, chronologically, so sure – next century, the one after, maybe a million years from now on when humanity has cycled back to cavemen and then up into the future again.
